Sark is traffic-free (there is a tractor and a trailer) and is Europe's only feudal state with its constitution dating back to Elizabethan times. Consequently there are a few strange laws like women not being entitled to a divorce. There is no income tax, which makes it an attractive little tax haven. The scenery, both coastal and inland (which only covers a couple of miles until its coast again) is beautiful. And, while you wouldn't say the nightlife rages, the pubs don't seem to shut from Monday to Saturday. Lihou Island: Unspoilt uninhabited bird sanctuary reached by tidal causeway. Remains of 12th centuary priory. Part of designated Ramsar site. Please be aware of change of tides on the causeway.
Guernsey: La Vallette Bathing Pools: The Bathing Places at La Vallette were constructed in the 19th century. The first pool to be built was the Horseshoe, completed in 1859-60. In 1862, a plan was put forward to build a Ladies Private Bathing Pool. It was built by public subscription, the St. Peter Port Douzaine and the States of Guernsey. It was extended to its present length in 1947. In 1876 female bathers demanded a second pool, that was to be a Public Ladies Pool, and this was built 10 years later. The Oatlands site now includes several shops, an award winning Brasserie and café, a chocolate shop, a children’s play area and picture framers. Popular with locals and tourists alike, Oatlands is well worth a visit. Saumarez Park is one of the Island's main social venues and centrally located in the Parish of Castel. It hosts numerous events throughout the year, including: the Guernsey Friends of the Anthony Nolan Trust Easter Egg Hunt; the Guernsey Classic Vehicle Club Show; the Old Guernsey Market or La Viaer Marchi and the North Show and Battle of Flowers. The largest public park in Guernsey, it is very popular with families, with many facilities for young and old. Sausmarez

Beaches This
is Guernsey: Most coastal resorts have a grand total of one beach
for seaside-lovers to luxuriate on. For obvious reasons, islands tend
to have more. Guernsey has about 25. As an added bonus, they come in
many different forms, from long sandy sweeps, ideal for playing on,
to tiny intimate coves, where there is generally sand at low tide but
pebbles at the top. The beauty of these is the very fact that they are
not so much fun for active types - so those who want to do nothing more
than laze and read a book can do so in peace.
Activities Visit Guernsey With an environment that’s as conducive to outdoor pursuits as ours, it’s not surprising that a range of sporting and other activities is available on the islands, including cycling, diving, angling and sailing. Golf Today: Although geographically adjacent, in some crucial ways Guernsey is very different from mainland UK. The usual comment is that it feels like it’s a few decades behind, which is meant as a compliment. Old fashioned values such as good manners are evident everywhere, cars are driven less aggressively and the nostalgic presence of pound notes reinforces the time-warp effect.
