Guernsey : A heady mix of stunning scenery and the best of contemporary
living, Guernsey is the perfect destination. Inspiring walks along the
cliff paths, rambles through the rural interior or lazy days on the
islands beautiful beaches, Guernsey has it all.
Island
Life: The second largest of the Channel Islands, and the most Western
(30 miles from France and 125 miles south of England), Guernsey is approximately
nine miles by five miles wide in a triangular shape covering 24 square
miles in area. Amazingly there are 1,971 roads. The population is around
60,000. The mild climate and around 2,000 hours of sunshine per annum,
means the island is the perfect holiday resort.
Wikipedia:
The Bailiwick of Guernsey (French: Bailliage de Guernesey) is a British
crown dependency in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy. As
well as the island of Guernsey itself, it also includes Alderney, Sark,
Herm, Jethou, Brecqhou, Burhou, Lihou and other islets. The defence
of all these islands is the responsibility of the United Kingdom. However,
Guernsey is not part of the UK, nor the European Union, but is rather
a separate possession of the Crown, comparable to the Isle of Man. The
island of Guernsey is divided into 10 parishes. Together with the Bailiwick
of Jersey, it is included in the collective grouping known as the Channel
Islands.
Guernsey
Highlights: Waves and sand battle for supremacy in bays like huge
amphitheatres, while mementoes of Nazi occupation offer a testament
to the tides of history. St Peter Port offers modern bustle with fine
restaurants, upmarket shops and harbour guarded by the ancient Castle
Cornet.
Herm
Island is the ideal holiday destination, whether you want a Family
Holiday or Quiet Break away from the stress of everyday life. Travel
to Herm on your Own Boat, just Visit for the Day or come Across for
the Evening. Herm really does have something for everyone.
Sark
is traffic-free (there is a tractor and a trailer) and is Europe's only
feudal state with its constitution dating back to Elizabethan times.
Consequently there are a few strange laws like women not being entitled
to a divorce. There is no income tax, which makes it an attractive little
tax haven. The scenery, both coastal and inland (which only covers a
couple of miles until its coast again) is beautiful. And, while you
wouldn't say the nightlife rages, the pubs don't seem to shut from Monday
to Saturday

Golf
Today: Although geographically adjacent, in some crucial ways Guernsey
is very different from mainland UK. The usual comment is that it feels
like its a few decades behind, which is meant as a compliment.
Old fashioned values such as good manners are evident everywhere, cars
are driven less aggressively and the nostalgic presence of pound notes
reinforces the time-warp effect. Its such a hospitable place that
it treats visitors much better than it does its own folk.

Walk
Guernsey: Learn about shipwrecks, fortifications, folklore, tales
of buried treasure and botany as you walk between Vazon and Albecq,
with spectacular views of the west coast.
Beaches
This
is Guernsey: Most coastal resorts have a grand total of one beach
for seaside-lovers to luxuriate on. For obvious reasons, islands tend
to have more. Guernsey has about 25. As an added bonus, they come in
many different forms, from long sandy sweeps, ideal for playing on,
to tiny intimate coves, where there is generally sand at low tide but
pebbles at the top. The beauty of these is the very fact that they are
not so much fun for active types - so those who want to do nothing more
than laze and read a book can do so in peace.

Sark and Herm than people think. There are the fabulous traditional
cream teas and seafood suppers. And of course, the superb white sand

more exotic, shops are brimming with both eclectic and elegant things,
and there are some cool new bars and restaurants opening up to join
the great choice of existing watering holes and eateries. According
to well known travel journalist Paul Mansfield "Guernsey is having
a style moment" and he's clearly right.
