Adolphe Guillaumat

image 1Freepedia is a series of free encyclopaedias. We currently specialize in history but we intend to branch out into other areas. This section is about Adolphe Guillaumat.

Adolphe Guillaumat led a division of the French Army on the Western Front in 1914. He replaced Robert Nivelle as commander of the Second Army and took part in the defence of Verdun in December 1916. The following year he took command of French forces at Salonkia.

In the summer of 1918 he replaced Auguste Dubail as military governor of Paris. Guillaumat returned to front-line duties as commander of the 5th Army during the advances through the Ardennes at the end of the war. Adolphe Guillaumat died in 1940.
