Cast Iron has been used as door fittings since medieval times. Due to it malleable nature it has been a popular choice as a material that can be used creatively for hinges, handles, letter boxes, door knockers, railings and gates. The Late Victorian and Edwardian period successfully used it in their traditional style homes and this trend stayed until the thirties.
